Anuparb out of reach in R2M 8 Hours Endurance Qualifying

Anuparb Sarmoon showed a clean pair of heels to the rest of field in today’s Qualifying Practice and Superpole to take a clear pole position for tomorrow’s R2M 4 and 8 Hours Endurance 2018 at Thailand Circuit.

With the other top rated riders were lapping between 1:29.7 and 1:32.0, Yamaha R3 Team’s Anuparb put in a jaw dropping time of 1:25.920 early in the Group A session to secure his place as the last man to go in the Superpole shoot-out later in the afternoon.

The next best time belonged to 18 year old Australian and one of last year’s heroes, Zackary Johnson. He managed a best lap on the Moto Image BRP Racing R3 of 1:29.774. His team mate, Petcharawut Petchuay was next up on 1:29.803, ahead of 4 Hours competitor, Tanate Sukjaroenbring on the PTT Challenger YSS Kawasaki who did 1:30.147.

Other riders circulating in the sub-1:32s, which is a potential podium pace for the 8 Hours and a winning one for the 4 hours, were Piyawat Hoombunyasuk for Yamaha Riders’ Club, Thau Chaisakul, Chitphong Ruengaew and Asawin Kongthonpaisarn, all for UTR Oneball Racing and another of the 2017 heroes, Ben Reid, who came within 2.1 seconds of a win after a breathtaking chase in the darkness of the final hour.

Of the 4 Hours competitors, Yamaha PTT KYT Conexecute DID NGK TS Racing team’s Aekalak Tesung, Jeerakit Teeranupong and Ratchada Nakcharoensri were all below 1:32, to set themselves up as favourites for the win in the shorter race.

Tanate was first out for Superpole for PTT Challenger Kawasaki, putting in a clean flying lap of 1:30.550. Zack Johnson stayed in the pit box for Moto Image BRP Racing, letting Petchawarut take the responsibility for the team. He also kept it clean, with a time of 1:30.914.

Anuparb was the last rider out, after his stunning Qualifying performance and did not disappoint. He put in a characteristic performance of controlled aggression and speed to put pole position beyond doubt by recording 1:26.392 Racing The starting grid tomorrow

UTR Oneball Racing will take fourth place from Yamaha Riders’ Club 8 Hour Team and Yamaha PTT KTY TS Racing.
